Colonia

Colonia A visit to the historic center of Colonia del Sacramento is like a walk back in time. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, this old colonial town is renowned for its cobbled, windy streets and colorful houses reminiscent of old Lisbon. Due to its colonial beginnings, the city's layout is different from the majority of Uruguayan cities. Its cobbled streets and houses alternate with small bars, excellent restaurants, art and craft shops, museums and a large yacht harbor.

Montevideo

City
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay, a nice not so quite but extremely beautiful place, where you can see a display of old architecture style mixing with the newest designs such as the Tower of communications.

A city full of life, culture, great theatres, an extense commercial zone and great international ports. The five stars hotels and casinos are a must, but you can also go to the beaches although not very clean sometimes.

The nightlife is pretty awesome and you will find a place for every taste, from jazz, to tech and rock and roll, even for swingers!

Getaway weekend in Salto

Naturalspa10If you are a swimming pool fan you will love the Termas (natural hot water), in Salto you can go to Arapey or Dayman, they are equally beautifull although Arapey is more exclusive and sorrounded by green, hotels and it's a close campus.

The Termas have healing powers for those people who suffer from body sores,  asthma, and stress.

You will be able to relax to the point that everybody walks around in bath robes so you don't even have to get dress to go to a restaurant =) how cool is that?

Best time to go is in the winter when you can really enjoy de 39ª of the water =)

Valizas

Valizas

Valizas is really something from other world, almost virgin the beautiful beaches own the place, you are not going to find electricity (some bar can have a generator), and you can get in touch with nature in it's more beautifull form.

You must left the car outside and they will transport you there in horses, 4x4 trucks or you can take  a CAMEL! yeap, a you are reading just fine...  camels are for rent  in order to protect the dunes that tourists where starting to destroy.

Obviously this is a very inexpensive place but I will only recommend it to spend the day, we are used to live with some many comforts (although sometimes we don't see it) and it's too radical to forget all those luxuries like have running water.

Punta del Diablo

Url A fishermen's town, where you can relax and forget about everything, a great place to vacation with your family, it's really safe, also if you are a surfer you are going to find this place like heaven.

Punta del Diablo has it's romantic side, the sun rises and sets are spectacular  because it's reflection in the ocean.

There are plenty of activities you can find there, horse riding in the beach, little pubs, sea food little restaurants, everything is simple and nature related, even the handcrafts (necklaces, brazeletes, pipes, etc.) are made with sea shells, snails, shark theeth, wood.

I strongly recommend to made the reservations with some time in advance, it's not so big and they run out of accomodations pretty fast.  Extremely popular in summer time.

Uruguay :)

Uruguay is small, with lots of green in it's landscapes :), located between Brazil and Argentina, sorrounded by sea.

You can choose the country side, the city,  or the Costa de Oro (golden coast) with it's espectacular beaches and endless parties at night.

It's also an excellent  place to study, people from arround the world came to the university here for several motives (it's free, one of the best in the world, the cultural level is amazing) Of course all the universities are located in Montevideo (capital city) and they made a hard selection of people so you won't waste their time and their tax money, but it's worth it.

They are a variety of things you can visit a good city and country map can be handy, not everything is mark for the tourists to see, you are going to play a cultural treasure Hunt, good luck =)

The people is  warm and nice, always ready to help if you are in trouble, of course there are all kinds of people like everywhere else.

The main language is spanish but most of the people spoke english, italian and french. Because of their families, the school or just for pleasure. So you are not going to have any troubles trying to comunicate.

Remember : tengo hambre (I am hungry) , Estoy perdido (I am lost), Gracias ( Thanks) that should be enough for you to survive lol.
