Casa Natal de El Libertador

4 A memorial to Simon Bolivar, it's no surprise that great care is taken over the maintenance of his birthplace. The visitor can experience the past in the walls, rooms, interior yards, plants and decor. The house  still holds family portraits and antique furniture. As an additional attraction, there are several magnificent epic paintings by Venezuelan artist Tito Salas.

Panteón Nacional

3_4 This enclosure is the resting place of illustrious Venezuelans and an homenage to their memory. It was decreed the National Pantheon in 1875, after having been the Church of the Holy Trinity. Within this rather moving atmosphere, the visitor cannot help but observe and appreciate the epic paintings of Tito Salas on the ceiling, and the magnificent chandelier made of more than 4,000 pieces. The changing of the guards is also worth seeing.`

14_9 Each December, Bogota hosts a sporting competition that brings together a good variety of sports, including a few quirky ones. The competition includes weightlifting and bowling, plus possibly basketball, hockey and others. Past competitions have also included swimming with fins and underwater hockey. (Underwater sports are Spanish and Colombian favorites, apparently.) You never know just what you'll find at the 'Christmas Cup,' but the unexpected is a good bet.
