Ciudad del Este is in Paraguay, part of the Tri Border, and a great place to go shopping. The Iguazu Falls are its main attraction, along with shopping, since it is the third largest free-tax commerce zone in the world. Another interesting site to visit is the Itaipu dam, shared with Brazil.
Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay, eventhough it has many tall and modern buildings, some of them date to the 1800s and there are many cobble stones streets. If you travel to Asuncion in July, don't miss the trade fair, with exhibition booths, food, music and liquor, lots of free samples of food, soap, drinks and other stuff. Make some time to visit the National Cathedral and the Panteon del los Heroes.
